The hotel is brand new and beautifully decorated. It is located in a central area with low tourism activity, which is suitable for an extended stay. We stayed a week. We wanted solitude with access to hikes, mountains, highlands, waterfalls and glaciers, and we got it. The breakfast was also delicious. The staff is very kind and accommodating. (We love your hospitality, Judith! And it was a pleasure to briefly meet the owner too!)
Located a 1-hour drive from Reykjavik, this hotel is located 820 feet from Route 1 near Borgarfjördur Bay. It offers a free Wi-Fi and a free private parking.

We were in a comfortable clean cabin. The staff were lovely helpful and accommodating. Our first room was small and like a dorm room and very expensive. However when I talked to them they moved us. Turned me from unhappy to happy
We were a little late for breakfast and they still fed us which they didn’t have to. The people were truly hospitable.
This hotel offers relaxing outdoor hot tubs, an 18-hole golf course and activities such as whale watching and snowmobile safaris. Reykjavik and Snæfellsnes National Park are a 1-hour drive away.

Clean and comfortable, breakfast was excellent. We had to leave early that morning but the night guard did a terrific job taking good care of us.

Small, cosy, almost brand new and well
Equipped. Nice location as well and attached to owners home.
Busy little town, with various amenities. Has several museums in the area. A coastal path runs round the west side of the town giving good views of the area. There a number of food outlets along with a Netto supermarket. For refuelling purposes, there a three separate garages for fuel, next to route 1.

The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this).
There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime.
There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large.
In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views.
The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.
Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel.
We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.
We chose this hotel because of its location, which was close enough to Reykjavik to begin our touring of the surrounding countryside, fjords, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, etc. Upon our arrival to the hotel, the building was not at all appealing from the outside. It looked like a very basic motel, and clearly was catering to the golfers on the site, wheeling their golf equipment through the parking area directly along the building entrance. Inside, the rooms were adequate and pleasant as was the buffet breakfast.
Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.
Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.
our hosts were friendly and warm, welcoming us to their home. Our accommodations were impeccable, they even prepared the hot tub for us when we arrived back late from a day trip. Breakfast delicious…authentically Icelandic, down to the home-caught smoked trout and homemade blueberry jam!
The location of the hotel was amazing. Perched in a valley with amazing views of the mountain range! The restaurant on site had a wonderful menu and everything was cooked and served perfectly (dinner and breakfast). We enjoyed our stay and will return no doubt!
The hotel has sauna and hot tubs(“ (outside), which are really nice. The staff is professional. You need to rent bath robes, unfortunately, to go outside to the hot tubs and sauna.
Dinner and breakfast were good.
Good view of the mountains from the hot tubs.
We loved the hotel - wonderful breakfast, cozy room, comfortable beds, awesome hot tub and sauna. Also loved the incredible view and ability to be in nature on a lovely path surrounded by water and mountains. It was a delightful start to our trip!
Spacious room and equipped kitchen with small fridge. Near Route 1. Nice bathroom and clean. Good communication with hotel. Arrived late no issues. Parking in front. Good value for money. Scenery area.
The Hotel lays on the main street to town, nice view to sea and mountains, the room was nice and very clean but the shower needs maintenance, the breakfast is a little bit too expensive (more than 20EUR)
Very helpfull staff. The hostelroom is located in a fancy hotel. Very beautiful interior. For that price... Best price-quality I booked in all Iceland. Good beds, nice food at the restaurant.
This lovely hotel was clean, quiet, beautiful situated. The hostess was so kind and warm. Breakfast was such a yummy spread of good options. The option to pre-reserve dinner was very nice.
The view out behind the guest house was beautiful as was the town. The spirit of the town is one of the things we really liked about Iceland. Very childhood supportive.
